Easy is the Way: The Black Donnellys Season Finale

This first season of The Black Donnellys brought to us: "Pilot", "A Stone of the Heart", "The World Will Break Your Heart", "Lies", "Run Like Hell", "The Only Thing Sure", "The Underdog", "In Each One a Savior", "All of Us in the Gutter", "When the Door Opens", "Wasn't That Enough?", "The Black Drop" and tonight's finale "Easy Is the Way". The final episode, I anticipate could only surpass the previous episodes in quality and memories.

To celebrate the finale, here are some memorable quotes from previous episodes.

"You went there with goodness in your hearts, but you wore masks?" - Tommy Donnelly

"I've always thought honesty was best served cold." - Joey Ice Cream

"Crime is the family business, Sean. This is just a staging area." - Kevin Donnelly

"I dunno. Maybe she wants the $10,000 I owe her. Maybe she wants to know why I robbed her." - Tommy
"Maybe she wants to know why you killed her husband." - Jimmy Donnelly
"Shut up, Jimmy." - Tommy Donnelly

"I don't know what he did, or how he did it, but Kevin screwed up." - Jimmy Donnelly
"Well, there's a twist." - Tommy Donnelly

"Me? I always wanted brothers like that." - Joey Ice Cream

"I think if you can remember what a person meant to you and hold onto that feeling.... I think you can survive a time like this." - Tommy Donnelly

The list of quotes go on and on.. and so we will see if that is true for the Donnelly brothers. "Easy is the Way" will surely have memorable quotes of its own.

Understanding The Black Donnellys

This was the fourth media letter we had pushed out. Rather than focus on the progress of our efforts, the letter addresses why it is we watch in support this show.

-------

For Immediate Release
May 10, 2007

We wanted to take a step away from reporting our campaign efforts to you all. Instead we''d like to focus on why it is we are participating in this campaign and that reason is this show, The Black Donnellys.

When the pilot episode had aired, we were first engaged with a peculiar character named Joey "Ice Cream", who would later become the narrator for the rest of the story. He introduced us all to four Irish brothers, Jimmy, Tommy, Kevin and Sean Donnelly, who lived in the heart of H***'s Kitchen. Irish blood clashed with Italian blood.. and keeping the peace was quitely understood until one day. The Donnellys made a mistake by disrupting the peace and what was unknown to them.

We, the viewers, were catapulted into a world of family hardships, corruption and misdoings. More characters were introduced, names that have become synonymous of characters in our own lives in one shape or form including: sweet Jenny and her father Mr. Reilly; Dokey Farrell, the brute and Irish bully; Nicky Cottero, the Italian rat; and the widowed Mrs. Donnelly, who only wanted to see her boys survive in a life of adversity. Throughout the season, we see the emotions erupt, motives unravel and suspicions revisited.

After viewing the second to last episode, we understand with clarity the core of the Donnelly family. Sean, the youngest, is clean of any misdoings and his brothers make sure that is how he stays.. innocent. Kevin acts as comic relief while being able to support his brothers both emotionally and physically. Jimmy is the oldest child, rough along the edges. He holds the family pride but is challenged with humility. Tommy is the strength of the family. He only does what he thinks will undo what is "wrong".. and realizes a world of manipulation and negotiation can only get you "right" for a period of time.

As the season draws to a close.. the second to last episode that was shown this past Monday, entitled "The Black Drop", was a rough and intense episode (nevermind NBC's hiccups.. as it took three hours after the advertised 8pm ET start time before "The Black Drop" was viewable). With each episode we see the story escalate and the emotions heighten. We can only wait in anticipation. With only one episode left, we encourage you to watch this Monday night, as we have watched religiously over the past couple of months. We know better.. that this episode, will surely be a cliffhanger.

We, Save The Black Donnellys campaign believe in "Family Above All" and therefore, we will not give up. We believe that The Black Donnellys deserve a second season, whether that be with NBC or another network. As we face the possibility of the series end.. we will perservere.

Sincerely,
Save The Black Donnellys Campaign

Progress of Save The Black Donnellys Campaign

This was the third letter that we had pushed out to TV and entertainment columnists on Sunday, May 6th. The Subject of the email was: Updated progress of Save The Black Donnellys Campaign

Good morning, It is currently a bit over one month since The Black Donnellys has been removed from network television. As May 14th and the announcement of fall line ups nears, it becomes more important that we, Save The Black Donnellys campaign, express our concern for bringing the series back to television.

There are only two more episodes left to watch at NBC.com. Since the series was pulled off the air, every episode available online has been in the Top 10 most downloaded tv episodes on iTunes. The Black Donnellys is ranked alongside the likes of 24, Lost, The Office and Heroes, which are all well advertised and established shows. The Black Donnellys is the MOST consistent and ONLY series that is currently not on the air but ranks in the top 10 and is one of the most top selling seasons on iTunes. The Black Donnellys has capitivated an enormous and loyal audience. No other series has had such a response. We believe the show has set a precedence for shows that have been abruptly pulled from the air. The successful numbers from iTunes support that. This is a show that will not go without a fight. We believe, NBC will continue to have ratings woes with the decisions they continue to make which upsets their viewers. These are viewers they continue to alienate.

We, the fans of the Black Donnellys, will not accept the show being cancelled. We hope that you will continue to support us. In case The Black Donnellys is not renewed by NBC, we will focus our efforts on bringing this series back to another network. We have strong faith that there will be a Season 2.

We would like to acknowledge the support from Kristin Veitch and Korbi Ghosh from E!online. Kristin has dubbed us the "fam" base because of our spirit and belief in this show (See http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/detail/index.jsp?uuid=07729a19-242a-4485-8982-40ad9ac11233). Our online petition (http://petitionspot.com/petitions/Donnellys) continues to grow and is currently over 31,000 signatures. We know that many fans out there are still unaware of The Black Donnellys being pulled off the air. Those fans span all over the U.S through Canada. We'd like to see your support in informing your readers. Together, we can help Save The Black Donnellys!

We appreciate your time.
Sincerely, Save The Black Donnellys Campaign
